Exoplanet is a serious game created to teach astronomy students how to identify inhabitable planets. It was created for the University of Southern Queensland under function given by the Carrick Institute for Higher Education. In the game, students must examine characteristics of planets (e.g. mass, distance from sun, atmosphere etc) and determine if a planet is inhabitable for human life. The game story begins with the player realising that Earth will not sustain human life for more than another 2000 years and that they must find another planet to colonise. Data from the game has been taken from NASA databases and provides students with authentic information about other planets in our galaxy.
